Our Ingredients

Reading soap and lotion labels can be a bit mystifying, as various ingredients bring different qualities to the party. We've selected the ingredients below for their skin-loving nature. Read more to help guide your soap purchase:

Canadian Beeswax

This is the product that lead us down the path of natural skin care products. While beeswax contains skin-loving ingredients such as vitamin A, which supports the turnover and reconstruction of skin cells, beeswax's true beauty is in its humectant and moisture barrier properties. Humectants attract water, helping your skin hydrate by drawing in moisture naturally. Additionally, the density of beeswax creates a barrier on the surface of the skin, locking in moisture and protecting the skin from environmental elements.

Much of the beeswax available for health and beauty purposes is collected and processed in China. We choose to support Canadian beekeepers, both in an effort to support local business, and to assist with simpler quality control.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is wonderful addition to soap and lotion, as it is rich in medium-chain fatty acids; in particular, lauric acid, which has many presumed health benefits. These saturated fats are ideal for use in skin care, nourishing the skin and providing a natural protective layer. In soap making, coconut oil also helps to harden the bars and produces a bubbly lather.

Shea Butter

Shea butter has been used for centuries, and is rich in fatty acids, vitamins A, E and F. It gives a luxurious feel to soap and is a rich emollient in both soap and lotion. Shea butter is believed to smooth and soften the skin, and is believed by some to be an anti-aging ingredient. Shea butter is extracted from shea nuts that grow on Karité trees, indigenous to Africa. We choose to use naturally refined Shea butter,

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is renowned for it's creamy and moisturizing quality in cold-processed soaps. Olive Oil cleanses gently with a silky lather, making it excellent for sensitive skin.

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower Oil is high in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids, both beneficial for skin care. Sunflower Oil, especially in conjunction with Olive oil create a highly moisturizing lather.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is a natural humectant, drawing moisture to skin and helping to retain it resulting in soft skin without skin being left feeling greasy. We use fine grain sea salt, as it provides gentle exfoliation to slough off dead skin cells and promote skin rejuvenation resulting in smoother softer skin. Finally, our sea salt undergoes minimal processing, so it retains essential minerals, including magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Some find the inclusion of these minerals beneficial for detoxing and/or calming itchy and inflamed skin.
